As the poets once wrote, it will soon be time to enter a dreamworld of magic. Netflix has released the first trailer for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, written and directed by Greta Gerwig and destined for an IMAX release this upcoming February.
According to the official description, The Magician’s Nephew (based on the novel by C.S. Lewis) is a “sweeping adventure about the creation of Narnia.” The film, confirmed to star David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Daniel Craig, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Denise Gough, Susan Wokoma and Meryl Streep as the voice of Aslan the lion, marks Gerwig’s first film since the blockbuster success of 2023’s Barbie.
In the new trailer, we’re introduced to young Digory Kirke (David McKenna), whose uncle (Craig) turns out to be the titular magician. His newest trick: Creating the world that will soon be known as Narnia. The dazzling visual effects are accompanied by Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven,” which very rarely gets this kind of licensing for movie soundtracks — making this trailer all the more special.
