As we learned in the Academy Award-winning film Godzilla Minus One, there are always early signs for a kaiju attack, like a sudden appearance of dead fish in the water. And similarly, there are always early signs for a movie in production, like a casting call for extras. Thanks to a website seeking volunteers to appear in the next Toho Studios movie by director Takashi Yamazaki, we know that the promised sequel to Godzilla Minus One is now in production, and will be shooting from August 30th to September 16th in Ibaraki Prefecture.

The casting website does not mention that the project is a Godzilla movie, only referring to it as Masterpiece Monster Movie — a tentative title. Still, Yamazaki has only two announced projects on the horizon: the Godzilla Minus One sequel and an English-language movie produced by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot. So this being the director’s long-awaited follow-up feels like a safe bet.

The kinds of background actors being sought by the production include “Townspeople, people fleeing, etc,” “Hospital staff,” and “People in evacuation shelters.” Extras will receive, per the website, “original commemorative items (not for sale).”
