Fairytale Forest

LORAC Fairytale Forest Pro Palette (2020) ($35.00 for 0.56 oz.) is a more desaturated neutral eyeshadow palette with a mix of mattes and shimmers. It included eight matte eyeshadows and 10 shimmer eyeshadows, which all performed pretty well; they were pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing.

There were a few shimmers that seemed to have more transparent bases, but they weren’t dry, so they still had good adhesion and shine. The matte formula can be a touch powdery but tended to have higher coverage that wasn’t prone to sheering out or having fallout, so it was more something present in the pan but not during application.

Birch

Birch is a muted, medium-dark yellow with warm, more orange-leaning undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage with a soft, blendable texture that was somewhat powdery. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me before fading visibly.

Formula Overview

In 2020, the brand reformulated their PRO eyeshadows and released new palettes (and new shades, however new-new they might be). The formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” that “last[s] without creasing” and “blend[s] effortlessly.” Each eyeshadow can also be removed from its respective palette–there’s an included tool to do so–to rearrange the palette or depot (nice touch!).

The mattes felt less thin and were not quite as dry as the prior formula–a bit silkier–though the matte eyeshadows are still lightly to moderately powdery with light fallout but are blendable. I think it’s a formula more suitable to someone who tends to prefer buildable coverage and a little more muted color.

The shimmers were slightly creamier, smooth, and blendable with higher color coverage that had good adherence to bare skin. They seemed a little thicker than the prior formula, which I think gave them better hold.

For the most part, they were easy to use with most shades lasting between seven and eight hours, which is average, so the longevity wasn’t any better/worse than most eyeshadows on the market (including the prior formula).

Butterfly is a medium-dark copper base with pink-to-gold shifting sparkle.
