Lethal is Dead

Lethal Cosmetics Lethal is Dead 9-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($37.00 for 0.51 oz.) is a new, limited edition nine-pan palette that included three shimmer shades and six matte shades. Most shades had medium to semi-opaque coverage and were somewhat buildable, but the more unusual mattes definitely needed an eyeshadow primer (and something with some tackiness would be even better) to build up and apply true-to-color.

Straight to VHS

Straight to VHS is a very light yellow with moderate, warm undertones and a chunkier, sparkling and high-shine, metallic finish. The texture was thicker and had moderate creaminess to it, but it was hard to pick up evenly with a dry brush. I’d recommend using this with a fingertip or a dampened brush (this was the best method, in my experience) to help the product go on smoothly and not have fallout. It had mostly opaque, buildable color coverage that lasted well for eight hours on me.

Formula Overview

$6.00/0.06 oz. – $100.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have “extreme pigmentation” and “effortless blendability” … “that [will] last all day.” There are two primary finishes: mattes and metallics, and the latter can also be used wet.

The matte finish has semi-opaque to opaque color coverage with moderate powderiness; it’s a formula that is best used with a lighter hand. There was light fallout with some shades, though not at all, and they were blendable for the most part. Even with a light hand, there was still a bit of powderiness present–the brand did warn about using less with their formula–in the pan.

There were a few darker shades that had a tendency to sheer out when applied or did not apply as evenly, especially when layered over a lighter shade but most of the mid-tone and lighter shades were easy to apply and blend out. As a result, I found myself having better results by going dark to light rather than light to dark (which is more in line with how I typically work).

The metallic finish ranged from creamier, denser, and a bit thicker to softer, dense but still a little powdery (usually the lighter, more white-based shades). They were mostly opaque to fully opaque in a single layer, so they didn’t need to be applied with a wet brush to achieve coverage or adhesion. I found that some of the more powdery, shimmery shades were more flattering on the lid when used with a fingertip or a dampened brush, though.

The matte eyeshadows tended to wear around eight hours on me before fading, while the shimmer shades lasted eight to eight and a half hours on me.

The Final Girl

The Final Girl is a medium-dark pink with moderate, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. The eyeshadow had opaque color coverage with a slightly firmer texture, though it wasn’t powdery and still blended out without difficulty. This shade stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Spellbound

Spellbound is a medium lavender with warm, pinkish undertones and a metallic finish. The texture was soft, smooth, and easy to work with, which made it one of the better-performing shades in the palette. It had rich pigmentation that wore nicely for eight hours before showing signs of fading.

Watery Grave

Watery Grave is a light lavender with cool, blue undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer color payoff that was somewhat buildable but needed a tackier base to perform decently and have fuller coverage. The texture was soft and finely-milled but moderately powdery and thinner, which contributed to the application and sheerness. It lasted well for seven hours before fading noticeably.

Body-Snatched

Body-Snatched is a soft chartreuse green with warmer, more yellow-leaning undertones and a matte finish. It had mostly opaque, buildable pigmentation with a soft, lightly powdery consistency that applied evenly and blended out well but sheered out some. This would be best paired with an eyeshadow primer to give it better hold and intensity. It stayed on well for seven hours before fading visibly.

Ancient Evil

Ancient Evil is a light, peachy coral with a warm, darker base and lighter, sparkling shimmer over a metallic finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage with a soft, more loosely-pressed consistency that felt a little thick, so there was light fallout. This shade was better applied with a fingertip as a result. It wore well for eight hours before fading but had light fallout over time.

The texture was rather powdery and on the thinner side, which resulted in semi-sheer pigmentation that was hard to build up without using a tackier or colored base underneath it.
