Akro Dark Perfume Review
Akro Dark Perfume Review

Akro Dark Eau de Parfum is intended to be a celebration of chocolate, and while the first few minutes gave dark chocolate with a hint of cinnamon, deep and rich, it didn’t linger. It seemed to have patchouli in it, and then later, it was just dusty, aged leather and smokiness. The chocolate facets had vanished, and at best, vanilla showed up later on as a suggestion, but everything seemed to muddle and mute on me within a few hours of wear.

It is described as “dark chocolate” with “its most seductive facets” with notes of: cocoa, dark chocolate, cinnamon, hazelnut, and vanilla.

Scent Development

Pure, unadulterated dark chocolate marked the beginning of the journey with a sense of darkness, slight bitterness, and cocoa that was gently spiced with cinnamon. The first minute was almost boozy and rum-like. It shifted into a more powdered form of cocoa, earthier and more patchouli-like without being dusty. There are whispers of smoke in the background that felt cool and crisp.

After the first 10 minutes, it smelled of leather and something almost medicinal, dry and musty. The chocolate seemed like a long lost memory after a half hour of wear–there were no signs of it. It was smoky, leathery, and dusty with little earthiness, no nuttiness… let alone any vanilla or chocolate. Four hours into the wear, the faintest hint of vanilla crept in, but it was largely smoky and leathery, though it had dropped so close to my skin that it was hard to define the notes.

Application

For testing, I used 1/3 of a 0.7ml sample vial dabbed to the underside and topside of my wrist area . I used an unscented moisturizer prior to applying the scent as I found scent did not hold well here otherwise.

I purchased my sample in January 2022; fragrances are known to be reformulated over their lifetime , so be mindful of when a review was made, e.g. a review from 2010 may not reflect what the same-named perfume smells like in 2022.

Longevity

It lasted for three hours until it was a skin-scent and about six hours before it was quite difficult to detect on my skin. The sillage and projection were light, and the fragrance pulled close almost immediately.

Personal Thoughts

For me, it under-performed due to the projection and longevity as a whole, and then the lack of chocolate throughout made this a pretty different scent experience than it was intended to be.
